When is the best time to see Northern Lights in Tromso

Often, tourists are trying to find the optimal date for their northern lights tour. That is probably waste of energy. It is impossible to predict the best days for the northern light to emerge.

Coastal weather changes constantly, so there is no use checking the weather forecast many days before your travel. Normally, the weather changes several times within the same day. In addition, the weather conditions are very local. We constantly monitor the conditions and decide where to go a few hours before departure. Usually, we go to inland Troms or all the way to Sweden or Finland to find the best possible conditions.

Our best advice is to book enough nights in Tromsø. Then you increase the likelihood of seeing the northern lights. On average the northern lights are visible every second day. Combine the tour with other sightseeing activities as whale watching to get the most out of your stay.
